Zelligeالزليج
Geometry of the Heavens.
For centuries, Moroccan artisans have translated the infinite into tile, crafting Zellige mosaics from hand-shaped clay, hand-cut with precision, and carefully hand-glazed. Every line, star, and diamond echoes the geometric language of the cosmos, a reflection of heavenly order and the eternal rhythms of the universe. Rooted in Islamic art and philosophy, these patterns are more than decoration — they are meditations in symmetry, visual prayers, and timeless dialogues between earth and sky. The repeating forms, interlocking polygons, and intricate tessellations symbolize unity in multiplicity, a mirror of creation itself.
Each Zellige is touched by the artisan's hand, and because they are hand-glazed, slight variations and imperfections appear, giving every tile its unique character and authenticity.
Not all Zellige is equal. We carefully source only the finest, top-quality Zellige from Fez, ensuring every piece you receive is authentic, handcrafted, and museum-quality — ready to elevate your space with heritage, artistry, and celestial beauty.
Craftsmanship, grounded in tradition.
The clay tiles are formed and dried before the glaze is added, and the hand-made tiles are fired twice to give them extra strength and durability. These hand-glazed Moroccan clay tiles are hand-cut using a sharp hammer called a "Menqach", creating an irregular finish. The Zellige tiles are often irregular shades depending on the color of the clay beneath. The technique and skill of the artisans is truly incredible, especially when it comes to designing and organizing the intricate tile pieces.
